About David A. Schwartz, MD, FACG, AGAF, FCCF
David A. Schwartz, MD, is a professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He founded and currently serves as Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Schwartz received his postgraduate training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology, and advanced training in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and endoscopic ultrasound. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
His editorial experiences include serving as a section editor for IBD Journal (2006-2014), associate editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (2014-2015), and the select summary editor for Gastroenterology (2015-2022). Dr. Schwartz’s research has focused on clinical trials for IBD, imaging of IBD, the multidisciplinary care of patients with IBD, and the treatment of perianal Crohn’s disease. He has lectured extensively throughout the United States and has written more than 300 articles, book chapters, and abstracts.
